I have just spent the last 10 days in England. It was beautiful abit very rainy and stormy with great gusts of wind about 30-40 miles an hour. Yet I totally had fun. Our first stop was to the Isle of Wight where we met up with our cousin. Then off to Lewes for the 5th of November Guy Fawkes day celebrations. there were many bonfires and fireworks and burning of large tubs of oil and “bangers” and chinese firecrackers. Bangers are like gunpower flash bangs that are lit and thrown into the streets. Each area of the city has its own teams who wear different colored striped shirts and they gather outside the pubs and set of the bangers and chinese fireworks.
These different groups also have their own bonfires and fireworks around the outskirts of town. We had a pleasant, but very wet day walking around the town and doing a bit of shopping as well as watching the people get ready for the celebration. Every business boarded up their windows even when they were still open. But the day of the celebration, everyone closed up at 3:00 pm and the traffic was stopped around the same time. No one could drive in or out of town. Yet there were over 2000 people in town for the celebration.
being that it was raining so bad, I did not get great photos with the big camera as the wind kept knocking about in my hands. But I did get some good photos with my phone. I will be sharing some of these photos over the next few days. I certainly hope that you enjoy them.
Well, that’s all the news from the south,
