After two wonderful days in St Petersburg , Russia, we went to Helsinki Finland. It was another beautiful sunny day with temps in the low 60s. Our tour today was a bus and boat ride of the town. We started on the boat, which was quite nice. We got to see old fortifications and different Islands that make up Helsinki. People will work in town and commute back to the different islands at night. The 6 Ice breakers were sitting in dock just waiting for the winter season. Sailing is an important way of relaxation for the Finnish people, and they are ranked 3rd in the world for the number of sailboats they have.
After a small tour of an open air market, we got on the bus to see some more of the city. We saw the Cathedral and the statue of Sibelius.it is quite interesting, There are over 600 organ pipes as well as a mask of his face.. I picked up some granite rocks there, as the town is built on granite. We had a wonderful time seeing the city.
